Where love still lingers

Where love still lingers

I have created this double spread in my cheap journal, I wish now that I had done it on a canvas as it would have been nice to display it in Autumn on the wall on my craft room.

I showed the first couple of layers on Instagram I used up scraps of scrapbook paper, brown paper, vintage book page and music scores amongst other things in my scraps box.

I then used gesso to blend the edges, this was how i first used to start a page when I began mixed media around three years ago. I forgot how much I enjoyed this process and I felt good using up more of my scraps. I then used one of the new Alison Bomber stencils to do stencilling and reductive stencilling.

Next I used grunge paste through a stencil, one of my favourites by Alison Bomber.

Followed by several layers of tea.

I added extra colour to certain areas for some depth.

I used the two stamp sets from Mags Woodcock and Alison Bomber to add interest onto the background. I love the Mags one it has such interesting elements that I am finding so useful for many types of projects. Of course it goes without saying that grasses are definitely my thing and Alison has been one of my favourite stamp designers for the last two years. Which is by the way when I really started to explore stamping. Before that I had junk journaled for a year and done a little mixed media, I had a few stamps but not many. I have quite a collection now. You see I am quite a newbie.

Next came lots of stamping and fussy cutting lots of hydrangeas and leaves.

Trying out layouts

Some close ups

My vintage typewriter provided the sentiment. I used more vintage scraps and home printed washi to help bed the sentiment into the page.

I love adding vintage lace, fabrics and vintage paper to my art.

The captivating image is designed by Brygida from KleeblattCreations on Etsy. It is called Ethereal Elegance and I was introduced to this shop and collection by Mags Woodcock. She used it in some of her artwork and I was hooked I loved it. The images are the perfect blend of beautiful/vintage and worn. Did I say I love the collection! Yes you can expect more makes from these printables.

Another look at the finished double page spread.

A fishy tail

A Fishy Tail

I created this ticket book with a Funky Fossils die, I used backgrounds created with  paints, alcohol inks, distress crayons, gel pens and dura-lar film. Totally inspired by Kate Crane. She happens to be the designer of these fabulous whimsical stamps too. I have used one of her stencils on the background all products are available through your local PaperArtsy stockists. On that point I want to add that I am in no way paid by PpaperArtsy, everything that I use is bought at full price by myself.

Please check out Kate Crane she has fabulous videos on YouTube and on her Facebook page. She inspired my journey into whimsy and using more colour in my artwork. Which has indeed led me on a journey of discovery.

I had hoped to include a short video on here however I just couldn't get it to play once uploaded. So sadly I am going to add it to my Instagram page instead. If you are not a follower then head over to Instagram butterflywings_beautifulthings to find me there.

It shows  the completed ticket book where you can see all the pages together I do hope you will pop over there to have a look.
I want to say a massive thank you to my talented daughter that turned my basic photos and short videos into a wonderful video.
The spine is bound with coloured thread and had handmade paper beads plus a couple of colourful acrylic beads on it. I have seen this binding method in many places recently especially on Instagram and thought I would have a go myself. I wanted to create a knotted handle (I haven't seen this anywhere) so I began the binding at the front of my book instead of at the back page as I have seen a few people do . (Anne Young )https://youtu.be/I5fIww3VQgI?is=kbv459S9fcz_ltKF has a video on it, I have also seen Pascal Daily on Instagram.
In the meantime here are some close ups of some of my favourite parts.

Notice the stickles on the fish, I love a bit of sparkle. Dura-lar film with alcohol inks add to the watery effect.

Snippets of vintage accounting pages stamped with mini  pattern stamps.
Doodles and embossing add to the finished page on this one, I really love this whale, it was my first Kate Crane stamp set! I felt it was fitting to start and finish with him.

Wish upon a star

Wish upon a star

It was my Birthday month last month (July) and I opted to have the new collection from Tracy Evan boutique designs.

I was thinking about all that had gone on for our family this year and the world as a whole. It does not feel like a safe place. I guess this wish is for everyone. I also wanted to create something that was pretty and to begin with it was going to be only in shades of blue. However I didn't have a plan only to use the large star. As I enjoyed each step a new idea came to mind for what was to follow. Do you craft like this or do you plan? Or maybe a little of both?

Joy for me that is a state of contentment, being in the moment, able to breathe, fun family times, the making of good memories, health for loved ones and myself, for you it will be something different.

As well as Peace, peace in my mind, no stress, anxiety or worry. Peace as a whole, an end to conflict which at the moment is hard to imagine.

I created this tag with the distressed star die and one of the lovely stamp sets and snippet stencil snowflake.
I wanted it to be calming pretty colours, with shimmer and shine. I added tiny iridescent glass crystals, sparkle pastes, Lindy's magicals, embossing powders and distess oxides and inks.

Here are a few close ups

A pop of colour A butterfly, I couldn't resist.
