A little bit Whimsy

A little bit of whimsy

Hello and welcome. This time I have created two bright and cheerful mixed media tags.  I absolutely love using my vintage book pages from my Nan's books as a foundation for so many of my projects. these tags are no different.

Here you can see the foundation of my tags. Over time I added colour to  the background with PaperArtsy Fresco finish chalk paints. I cannot list colours because in truth they sat on my desk in a pile of backgrounds and half completed projects. Slowly acquiring layers of paint left over from other art projects I was working on. Waste not want not.

I will let you into a secret. I am starting to think that I have a rather chaotic mind. My husband has always said that I have a "Butterfly brain" flitting from one subject to another and expecting him to keep up.

The backgrounds etc. usually wait and I find that there comes a time that they will speak to me asking to be used. I also have little pots on my desk with lots of fab things left over from other projects, either I have made too many, they didn't make the final cut, got distracted and began something else or I changed my mind on a half finished piece of art. It does limit my desk space which seems ever decreasing!
Then one day I will pick something up and it all seems to come together like it's meant to be.

Back to the tags.
Once the backgrounds got to a certain point I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

I created them separately so they are not identical. Different stamps and colours of embossing powders. I don't do compartmental making, I just can't sit and make lots of the same thing or die cut for hours. (Apart from when I get the gel plate out or my sprays then I do make quite a few at once.)  I totally understand the benefits, especially at Christmas, however it just doesn't suit me both on either a health or enjoyment level. Each to there own, I am a firm believer in creating for fun, do what makes you happy.

The above are the stamps I chose.
I have missed playing with my coloured pencils for a while so it was a treat to find that I was able to play with them without  any trouble.

I played around with the layout and when I was happy I used double sided foam pads to prop up some of the  florals, I finished this one off with some stickles. I love how the book page text can still be seen through the other layers.

This one has glossy accents and tiny gems. I just love the pop of colour and whimsical design.
Some close ups. I really enjoyed creating these.

You can see the dimension that the double sided foam pads gives the florals.

  1. Gorgeous makes, I do the same on almost all levels, I felt like you were telling my story. You introduced me to mixed media, I've only been hearing about it in the past years.
