Merry kiss-mas mouse
Welcome to my my latest colourful creation, well this one is a little special as it is for my first ever attempt at entering into a blog challenge. Create your own background
Firstly a special mention to Fiona and Cynthia as without you I wouldn't have got this far with my entry. You have both encouraged me to have a go.
This theme I couldn't resist as you know that I create almost all my backgrounds, so this Simon says stamp challenge was made for me to have a little fun with. I have been creating lots of vintage style projects recently, which I absolutely love in fact it is what I naturally gravitate towards. However since I discovered Kate Crane (aka the Kathryn Wheel) I have been playing with colour, experimenting with techniques and it has also become very much my happy place.
So lets begin
First I used me brayer to add layers of fresco finish paint in three colours, please don't ask me which as I have forgotten, I have a pile of these for when the moment takes me to play.
Then I used bubblegum, submarine cerulean and gold through a Kate Crane stencil which has lots of different patterns on the one stencil, Yippee!
I followed this with black texture paste through a smaller stencil a bit like the mushroom and toadstool tag journal on the previous post.
Then it went in a slightly different direction, I added Alcohol ink directly onto the page, I first saw Kate Crane do this in one of her tutorials. I waited until it dried and added doodles with white gel pen, then posca pen too. Followed by some black stamping with archival ink in jet black and a little heat embossing.
Now to build my layers, this is where my two styles vintage and colourful definitely cross over I love layers and textures. I added more homemade backgrounds in the form of gel prints to co-ordinate they also have the gold paint and the stars from the same stencil as I had used before.
I cut them into strips with layers of textured ribbon and torn washi tape.
Next the focal images were coloured with alcohol pens.
The little whimsical mouse was added with double sided foam pads for dimension and layered onto Tim Holtz mummy cloth.
As with all my Kate Crane makes I added hints of sparkle with some stickles.
Thank you for popping by and I hope you enjoyed this post.

This is just such an amazing make! I love how you give the instructions on what you did but very few people on this planet will come up with backgrounds like you do! It’s just genius and I love the colors! And wouldn’t you know it , the Wednesday challenge, which is on the same Simon says blog is Christmas in September so you can enter into that one as well since this is a Christmas card in September! You can enter both at the same time! Can’t love this enough!!!
